On
July 26, 2006, Jack Goeken, CEO and Chairman of Goeken Group Corp., was
awarded the “Distinguished Citizen’s Award” by Loretto Hospital Foundation
(LHF), in recognition for advancing healthcare with his creative and
life-saving service, Global MED-NET, Inc. This service provides doctors with a patient’s
medical history, which prevents errors and delays and helps the doctor to
prescribe the best treatment and medications for the patient.
Mr.
Goeken said that the award from LHF means a great deal to him, since Loretto
provides hospital care and medical services to those persons who cannot afford
to pay for them. Loretto Hospital, a not-for-profit
facility, has 175 doctors, 132 nurses and 435 additional staff dedicated to
helping those in need. Ninety percent of their patients are on Medicare,
Medicaid or have no medical insurance whatsoever.
After
the award presentation, a PolyBrite LED energy-efficient light bulb (invented
by Carl Scianna) was demonstrated to the attendees.
Steve Drucker, President and CEO
of Loretto Hospital, said that the cost savings of the PolyBrite light bulbs
would be of great benefit to their current hospital, as well as the new
hospital scheduled to be built on the west side of Chicago. PolyBrite has been invited to meet with Loretto’s
architect in this regard. Loretto Hospital also wants to convert, where possible, all light
bulbs at their present location.
